Putting Make Up On Dead People by Jen Violi was a 2012 Oregon Book Awards finalist in young adult literature. The judge in young adult literature Linda Sue Park, had this to say about the book: What kind of kid says, "When I grow up, I want to be a mortician"? This book introduces us to teen Donna Parisi, whose desire to become a mortician is neither comic nor macabre; her first-person narration rings with authenticity. The strong writing helps propel the reader through this slice-of-life story, and the questions Donna confronts about loss and death and moving on are human universals."
This Wednesday, August 1st, at 7:00 p.m. at Children's Place Bookstore, there will be an event to celebrate the paperback release of the book, and Jen says, "there will be dramatic reading, treats and impassioned autographing!"
