Literary Arts is hosting a release party for basalt magazine this Thursday, September 13th, at our center at 925 SW Washington. The event begins at 7:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
The evening will feature readings by basalt contributors:
basalt is the recipient of an Oregon Literary Fellowship for publishers. Jeffrey Levine, editor-in-chief at Tupelo Press, served as the judge in publishing and had this to say about basalt:
A journal that pays attention to the overlapping worlds of literary
and fine arts is something special, if not entirely unique. But, a journal that
enables this marriage with such sensitivity and beauty is rare indeed. basalt is doing gorgeous and exciting
work, not only with their print journal but though their website and
commendable educational outreach projects. The real gift here is the
extraordinary editorial attention to the ways in which the various media might
speak to each other within the pages of a magazine.
