Literary Arts seeks two
interns to assist at @Literary Arts events at our downtown center. Internships are six months,
from October 2013 to March 2014.
These internships will provide
practical, hands-on experience in the areas of non-profit arts administration,
event production and planning, sound recording and editing, and writing for
social media.
Literary Arts is a community based
non-profit. Our mission is to engage readers, support writers, and inspire the
next generation with great literature. @Literary Arts events are free literary
events at our downtown literary center at 925 SW Washington, often produced in
collaboration with other organizations. In the past year, we've
partnered with organizations like Tin House, Coffee House books, Loggernaut Reading
Series and the MFA program at Portland State, to present readings, panel
discussions and other literary events.
POSITION: Event and Recording Intern
for @Literary Arts
QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate will have a demonstrated interest in learning more
about the nonprofit arts sector and literary event production, enthusiasm for
recording and editing live literary events, and basic computer skills. The successful candidate will also have
experience using a digital recorder to produce high quality audio files, using
Garageband to edit audio files, and be able to work several evening events.
PRIMARY
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work closely
with Director of Programs and Events
- Assist with
set up and execution of approximately 12-15 evening literary events, from 5:00
to 10:00 p.m., at the Literary Arts center in downtown Portland
- Record events using Literary Arts sound equipment (Marantz PMD620 Digital
Recorder)
- Edit audio
files of recorded events, using Garageband
- Other tasks as assigned
SCHEDULE: October 2013 - March 2014 (event intern hours are
5:00 to 10:00 p.m. including October 17, October 24, November 7, November 10,
November 21 and other dates to be determined) 4-8 hours
a month in office during regular business hours
COMPENSATION:
This is an unpaid internship.

Photographer and Blogging Intern for @Literary Arts
QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will have a demonstrated interest
in learning more about the nonprofit arts sector and literary event production,
enthusiasm for photographing live literary events, and basic computer
skills.The successful candidate
will also have writing and editing skills and experience using Blogspot.com

Write blog postings after events
